That is exactly what we talked about last night...Faith and prayer are really important right now...how can I complain about the gas prices when people are suffering like they are on the Gulf coast...

Yeah Mum, Its hard though not to get angry or scared! I wanna know why it is taking so long to get those poor folks outta there? At the very least WHY, when the busses arrive to relocate ARE THEY NOT bringing in supplies and at the very least water?
We are the free world and I really don't think it should be taking this long to get help to these people...

If I may quote the great Homer J. Simpson to answer this question: "It's because they're stupid. That's why everybody does everything."
Have you ever worked within a large organization? Probably. So you'll know that no one knows what's exactly whose responsibility, and nothing ever really gets done. We have an expression that says, the head doesn't know what the ass is doing.
In cases like this, emergency relief being a perfect example, all the decision-making should be done through a single body. Governing agencies don't know how to handle such a crisis, so perhaps the Red Cross would be a good way to go.

I know you can only eat an elephant one bite at a time..but damn...we had aid to the tsunami victims faster than this..people were left behind in hospitalsand hospice,,,and in critical care facilities..and they are dying because the generators that keep their oxygen flowing have run out of fuel..I'm pointing fingers at the Mayor or N.O. and the Governor of LA...When we had the floods up here last year...our officials were on the ball....I do realize that the population of that area is monstrous..BUT didn't they know that?????..Those levees should be like the ones in the Netherlands....and they should have been updated long ago..this was a mess just waiting to happen...

Yeah, but while we have the world's most advanced water-management system, still we wouldn't be able to handle a hurricane.
And this emergency response is the same here. A few years ago some town got flooded and no one really knew what to do. Everyone acted too late, and some important dykes burts. Some people still haven't been compensated for the loss of their homes, because insurance won't cover natural disasters.
I'll bet the same will happen to many New Orleans in the coming months. They'r gonna need all the financial aid they can get. Ten billion US$ is just chicken feed compared to what is needed in the long run.

You are so right...my best guessamation at this point is it will cost at least 50 Billion and the total lives lost 3000 +...with many more dying after the fact of disease or broken heart/mental disabilities!

a lot of people won't give as much to charity as they would have because of price increases...like gas and food..and business folks will see a decline in profits as Americans stay home and budget their finances...

Yes...we are home this Holiday Weekend. My grocery bill has gone up 30 % in the last month. I believe its because oil being 65/70 a barrel has put a strain on the truckers and we all know most of our stuff comes in a truck. They are compensating for their higher prices...milk alone went up over 3$ a gallon too. Bread went up 20 cents...BREAD! Eggs went up ...and this is just the beginning!!!
